Pregnancy Update

I have been doing very well with the pregnancy so far. My symptoms are barely there anymore such as the pins and needles feeling, torch feeling, and the banding feeling. I think being pregnant has helped a lot plus I go see my great acupuncture lady every other week.  Last week I met with my primary care doctor to go over what still needs to be figured out when I deliver the baby. The one thing we are trying to figure out is how to get me my Rituxan after I deliver the baby? I have Rituxan donated to me since my insurance will not cover it and they ship it to my primary care doctor, which is in Frisco. The problem is I am not delivering up in Frisco I will be delivering down in Denver. The big question is can he just have the drug shipped to him no later then January 1 and then give it to me so I have it when I go into labor.  I have decided I will do a round of Rituxan 2-3 days after I have the baby so I don’t risk having an attack. Yes that means I cannot breast feed but I am really ok with that, I would rather be as healthy as I can for our new bundle of joy.

The one thing my pain management doctor did for me last week is I had to have him block my occipital nerve since my headaches were getting really bad. That has helped a lot and I am not getting very painful headaches anymore. I have also started back to Pilates this week, I am so very happy about that.  It feels so good to get back on the reformer and really stretch my muscles and get my workout in and it’s not that hard on my body. I am trying to do Pilates in the morning and do a walk at night with my German shepherd to get some cardio in.

The time has come for me to bite the bullet and buy a few maternity clothes. I am just starting to get the belly and my normal clothes are not fitting very comfortable anymore. It just looks like I have been eating a lot of cupcakes. I was kind of excited to go shopping for some clothes since I have not done that in a long time. Yeah shopping for maternity clothes was not fun at all for me since I am still so early it was hard for me to imagine how I am going to grow into the clothing. Especially the shirts I just look like I am wearing a really big shirt the pants are ok for now they are a little big but not as bad as the shirts.  I just have to say most maternity clothes are not very cute plus expensive. I am just buying a few to get me through this process since I will not be wearing them very long.

This past week my stomach has just felt very sore from everything just stretching and making more room for the baby. My new best friend in the world is my pregnancy pillow I sleep with and cuddle up to when I am resting. I went to Babies R us to purchase the pillow I bought the one from the brand “Boppy”. I really notice a difference in my lower back and tummy if I do not sleep with it.  I Love My Boppy Pregnancy Pillow!

The hard part in this process is Eric has decided to go back to school and lives on campus Monday through Friday; sometimes he gets to come home from school on weekends.  He started the end of August and will graduate the middle of December. I am very proud of him for making such a hard decision to leave me for a while but at the end it is going to be a good thing for us. Plus he is missing the rest of the baby appointments until he graduates. We came up with a good plan for when I go in September 23 to see if we are having a girl or boy? I am going to have the doctor put the news in an envelope and we will open it together when Eric comes home.  I think its going to be interesting when he does not get to come home for awhile and when he does how much bigger my stomach might be from the last time he saw me. There are few things that make me sad that I might not get to share with him if he is not home at the time. For example the doctors said here in a few weeks I will start to feel the baby move and I really want Eric home when that happens. Otherwise I will share that exciting moment with my dogs and cat. I am sure there will be some other moments as well.

The next big update will be if we are having a girl or boy?

Sugar, I am so excited for you! A first baby is such a huge milestone and such a life changing event. You and Eric have so much to look forward to and are going to have such fun raising this baby. Boy or Girl? Sugar and spice and everything nice, or snips and snails and puppy dog tails—either one sounds wonderful to me. 🙂

    Erin,
I have been inquiring/consulting with doctors on pregnancy lately. I was diagnosed with NMO Sept 2010. I am currently on Imuran and the neurologists want to switch me to Rituxan and the High Risk OB suggests I stay on the Imuran.
1 – Did you switch over to rituxan or is that what you have been on from the start??
2 – Are you experiencing any NMO symptoms??
3 – How far along are you?
4 – Are you on any additional meds other than the rituxan??

    Hi there,

Thanks for your message. First off, congrats on the good news. Every case is very different so you’ll have to listen to the advice of your doctors. For Erin and Jenna, they both had to eliminate certain drugs that treated NMO. It wasn’t easy and yes, at times painful, so it will be up to your wife if this is something she feels she can handle and if her doctors feel it is safe. Best of luck and please keep us updated.
